Brush Hole No More

Ever since we moved in our yard has been something we work on little by little. Mostly when the suns out and Colton can't stand being inside anymore. You could say our yard was a "Brush Hole" or "Blackberry Haven". I've been looking through old pictures to put together a photo album and I couldn't believe how much work we've really done and how I had hardly any pictures of what the original yard looked like. Here are a few from the past and then a whole bunch of what it looks like now.

 These three bushes were huge and somewhere behind them was a lilac bush

 Around the whole yard was a pressure treated, creosote pole fence

 I'm pretty sure these arborvitaes cam down the first weekend we moved in. but they did hide the blackberry brush pile behind them.

Colton's mom and dad came up to help and see the house updates. So much for relaxing on father's day, Scott. They ended up getting to big loads of rocks to work on the rock wall we are building around the yard.

 Before they arrived though, Colton and I went and got two big loads of dirt from up the road to fill in these really slopped spot between the two Rodie's that way it was level with the rest of the yard

 We still need to update the pump house but at least all the brush is gone

 All the blackberries are gone and Colton even tilled a spot for my garden this year. Deb helped me get it planted on Sunday so now all we do is wait :)

 The rock wall from the bottom. Noticed we had to raise it about three rows and the rest of the wall will be about one rock or so

 I moved the three big bushes from the front flower bed to the side of the driveway. They seem to be doing pretty good here.

 I wish I had some pictures of this area here. The grass was about four feet tall, blackberries, and a whole bunch of junk. I cleared it out and then Colton planted some trees in here

 We even cleared this little shack up a bit to add some more craziness to our lives. Last Friday they came in and in about 8 weeks they'll be in our freezer...........Can you guess what they are?

 MEAT CHICKS!!! Yup, we are raising 30 meat chicks in the midst of planning a wedding, remodeling, and I'm working six days a week. We figured they wouldn't be too much work since they just eat and drink water all day and grow as fast as they can. To answer all your questions; No, we will not be butchering them ourselves. I've told Colton from the very beginning that I want to raise and grow our food as much as we can but I will not take part in any of the butchering especially a cute chick or baby pig.



The Bathroom is COMPLETE!!

Sorry this took so long to get posted.... The bathroom has been complete for about 2 weeks now, but when I decided to take some pictures to post my camera was giving me all sorts of trouble. I thought for sure we were going to have to get a new one. I also started my second job as a farm market manager in Portland so I'm working 6 days a week now and the last thing on my mind was figuring out my camera. Well long story short my memory card is bad and I need a new one :) Plus I had no idea you could take pictures on the camera without a memory card in it! So finally I got some pictures so enjoy......



I've had this shower curtain picked out from West Elm for a LONG time 

We even got all the doors painted, hung and knobs put in.... no more wash cloth door pulls!

I still need to paint moulding so Colton can finish putting that in.

Our temporary shelving in the laundry room (Thanks to my brother Charlie for that)

We want to eventually put a shelf and close rod up above the W&D

This is a little sketch Colton did of what are plan is for shelving some day. I'd rather have the exterior of the house painted than this right now, but I think this is perfect!

Now that the bathroom is done all of our major projects are complete. Though we still have the den to do, we feel it will go pretty fast. Colton started working on the ceiling then we will texture and paint. I can't believe we are almost to a point where the inside is finished. We just had the 1 year anniversary for the house and for two 24 year-olds who have pretty much no idea what we're doing I think we've down a pretty good job figuring it all out together.
